Marseille holds its first victory of the season in the Champions League. In a meeting behind closed doors at the Vélodrome stadium due to the sanctions taken after the incidents in the last match against Eintracht, OM crushed Sporting 4-1.
Trapped in traffic, the Lisbon people certainly arrived late at the stadium, but did not miss the kick-off, which was postponed for 20 minutes. It only took 51 seconds for Trincao to surprise the Marseillais.
This catastrophic introduction was not, however, prohibitive. OM have indeed benefited from the generous help of the opposing goalkeeper Antonio Adan. The latter offered the 1-1 to Alexis Sanchez, very happy to counter the clearance of the latter in the goal, from the 13th minute, before missing a second recovery and allowing Marseille to take the advantage by Amine Harit 2 minutes later.
Worse still, the Spanish goalkeeper received a red card in the 23rd for having countered a ball with his hand outside his area. In the process, Leonardo Belardi scored 3-1 from a corner. Chancel Mbemba added salt late in the game. This result boosts Marseille’s business in this group, where Djibril Sow’s Eintracht and Tottenham (0-0) share 2nd place with 4 points.
