Eleven days after the Eastern Tobacco Company announced that it would raise the prices of all cigarettes, cigars, and honey products, Philip Morris announced that it would raise the prices of cigarettes and tobacco that it sells in Egypt, starting tomorrow, Thursday, by an increase from two pounds to six pounds.
Despite the recent increase in the prices of some types of cigarettes, they were high in some stores and kiosks, which surprised Mahmoud Sayed, who smoked cigarettes for 7 years.
Mahmoud says that he used to buy “LM” cigarettes for 38 pounds from some kiosks, and he sometimes bought them for 40 pounds, and that was a few months ago, so that the increase announced today is less than what he buys sometimes: “I have been drinking blue LM for years And it was increasing with time, but soon I was pocketing it with 38 hours and 40 hours.
Last July, the prices of cigarettes rose unofficially, which aroused the ire of citizens who demanded at the time to tighten control over kiosks and shops that sell cigarettes at high prices unofficially: “At that time, merchants were saying there was a shortage in the market, and companies were selling them at a high price, but this is not true, it was greed and salvation.” Said Mahmoud Saeed, who smoked cigarettes for years, and was forced on more than one occasion to change the type of cigarettes he smokes:
The increase starts from tomorrow, between two and six pounds per package, depending on the type. Merritt of all kinds rose to 59 pounds for the consumer, an increase of 7 pounds, and the Marlboro Red package rose to 54 pounds for the consumer, an increase of 6 pounds, and Marlboro Gold rose to 54 pounds for the consumer, an increase of 6 pounds.
