Claudia Sheinbaum asks not to mess with the candidates' children

MEXICO CITY (EFE).- Morena’s presidential candidate, Claudia Sheinbaumasked this Thursday not to get involved with the relatives of the candidates after the controversy sparked on Wednesday by a video of his rival’s son, Xóchitl Gálvez.

“My position is that not with children, those of us who are in the race are the candidates and the candidate (Jorge Álvarez Máynez) and the race is a matter of proposals, it is a matter of project and of those of us who participate, but not of the family members.” ”Sheinbaum commented at a press conference.

The candidate of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena) reacted to the controversy that a video of Juan Pablo Sánchez, son of Xóchitl Gálvez, in which he appears drunk while insulting and attacking an employee of a bar in the luxurious area of Polanco, in the country’s capital.

Although Morena legislators showed the video in the SenateClaudia Sheinbaum now asked to leave her children out of the fight.

“I do not agree with whoever used, whoever posted this video and it is used as part of the conflict, not with the children,” Sheinbaum remarked in his press conference during a tour in Aguascalientes, a state in the center of the country.

Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, The wife of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador also expressed solidarity with Xóchitl Gálvez and his son.

“A favor to the politicians in the campaign and their teams: play fair. Maybe it’s too much to ask. But, as a Mexican, I reject that family members continue to be ‘collateral damage,’” Gútierrez Múller wrote on her Facebook account.

While López Obrador also asked to leave the children out of the attacks, although without referring specifically to the case of Gálvez.

“Don’t mess with family members, don’t mess with minors. “If you have a problem with me, let it be with me, not with my children,” declared the president in his morning conference.

On June 2, Mexico will have the largest elections in its history, when 97 million voters are called to renew more than 20,000 positions, including the presidency, Congress and nine state governments.
