Commander of US Central Command arrives in Israel

Jerusalem – The Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation announced, on Thursday, the arrival of the Commander of the US Army’s Central Command, General Michael Eric Kurella, to Israel amid fears of a possible Iranian attack.

The authority said that Kurilla “arrived in Israel today, Thursday, on a visit against the backdrop of fears of an Iranian attack on Tel Aviv.”

She added that during his visit, he will meet Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy, and military officials.

Israeli media said that Tel Aviv was preparing for an Iranian response to the assassination of General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, in an air strike that Tehran said was an Israeli bombing that targeted its consulate building in Damascus in early April.

On Wednesday, Gallant vowed, in a speech to his soldiers, to respond to Iran “on its territory” if it attacked Israel, according to what the commission reported.

He said in his statement: “Whoever tries to attack us will face a strong defense, and immediately afterwards a strong response on its territory.”

American and Israeli officials said that the two sides held a series of consultations at all levels in recent days to prepare for an Iranian response.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said that Israel made a mistake when it killed General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the “Quds Force” of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Syria and Lebanon.

Israel did not officially acknowledge the assassination of Zahedi, but it did not deny responsibility for the assassination either.
