This blind date went differently than expected: A woman in Zhengzhou, China, was invited to her apartment when the district had to go into lockdown due to Corona. Then she was stuck with him – and kept a video diary.

With videos from what she claims to be an involuntarily extended date, a woman in China has sparked great interest in social media. The corona lockdown that was suddenly imposed on parts of the Chinese metropolis of Zhengzhou a week ago put the woman in a predicament when looking for a partner: she had just been invited to dinner in his apartment from a blind date when the district was cordoned off – and she was sitting Stuck with him since then, the woman reported to The Paper newspaper from Shanghai.

The woman said she had traveled back to her hometown of Zhengzhou from the city of Guangzhou, some 1,000 kilometers away, in order to meet several men at the request of her family. “I’m getting old, my family introduced me to ten acquaintances” who they wanted to see one after the other, she told “The Paper”. She had just invited her fifth date to his home to show off his cooking skills when the lockdown came into effect. The woman has been stuck in the apartment since January 9th.

Wang is not very enthusiastic about her blind date

Since then, Wang has been showing her involuntary everyday life with her date in short online videos. Footage released by local media shows the man cooking for her, doing chores and working on his laptop while she sleeps off. How long she had to stay there was unclear. The last video for the time being, which showed both of them having a hot pot meal, was published by the woman on Wednesday.

Despite the closeness and plenty of time to talk, there was apparently no spark between the two. Their date is as “dumb as a wooden mannequin” and the food he has prepared is mediocre, reported Wang. Apart from that, he has many good sides. She also thinks it’s “great that he’s still ready to cook”. But actually she would like a more talkative partner. The man himself did not have a say in the videos.

In the Twitter-like short message service Weibo, millions of users searched for the videos. In vain, as Wang explained. She deleted them all after she noticed that her involuntary flatmate had not gotten to grips with the reactions of his friends.

China has a strict zero corona policy. Several large cities have been sent into a total lockdown due to individual corona cases.
