According to a media report on Wednesday, Federal Councilor Alain Berset will apply to the entire Federal Council to lift the home office obligation and relax the quarantine rules.

In addition, many other measures could be taken in mid-February.

However, the director of health directors warns against easing too quickly.
Health Minister Alain Berset is stepping up the pace: On Wednesday, he not only asked the Federal Council to lift the home office requirement and further relax the quarantine rules. In addition, he intends to submit an opening plan to the cantons for consultation, such as Research by the “SonntagsZeitung” show.
According to this, almost all Corona rules would be lifted – especially the obligation to have a certificate. According to reports, Berset’s people are currently putting all measures up for discussion. Berset himself has already announced that the opening process “could go very quickly”. He also brought February 16th into play as a possible “happy day”. Then the Federal Council could decide on the turbo opening and put it into effect immediately, provided the epidemiological situation allows it.
The chief health director, Lukas Engelberger, on the other hand, proposes a more cautious easing plan in the “Sonntagszeitung”. “We shouldn’t open everything too quickly and at once, but rather in doses and in stages,” he says. But he also thinks that “a major opening step is conceivable” in mid-February. For this to happen, however, the situation must continue to improve by then and the peak of the omicron wave must be passed.
Engelberger demands consultation
Im “Sunday view” Engelberger continues: “The abolition of 2G and the obligation to obtain certificates in Switzerland will have far-reaching effects on implementation in the cantons. Such measures must not be decided without consultation.” It is dangerous to prematurely declare the pandemic over.
If the omicron wave does not flatten out and hospitalizations continue to increase, there would be new risks, Engelberger continued. The current measures would not only protect hospitals from collapsing, but also systemically important companies.
