Cracking down on Illegal Dumping: Success in Court-Saint-Étienne

2023-07-16 12:35:00

The fight against illegal dumping and damage to the environment has just borne fruit, in Court-Saint-Étienne. The Commune announces, on Facebook, having succeeded in identifying a more than indelicate man since he had, on several occasions, thrown at least 60 garbage bags in the Thyle…

“It’s incredible, yes. The municipal services had noted regular deposits in the Thyle. This is why we had installed one of our two surveillance cameras near the place”explains the mayor of Saint-Etienne, Michaël Goblet d’Alviella.

This therefore made it possible to identify the individual while a report was drawn up. The rest is the responsibility of the provincial registrar who should send him a solid fine. “I hope this will deter him from throwing his bags in the river in the future.”

It was at the end of 2022 that the Commune had purchased, with the support of the SPW, these surveillance cameras. These are placed in places identified as problematic by the municipal services. It is not only in the rivers that we find clandestine deposits, there are also some in more isolated places or not or near old hangars, for example.

Under the Facebook post, some Internet users are also calling for cameras to be installed on Avenue de Wisterzée at the corner with Rue François or near the Earth bubbles.

Because the fight against litter is, unfortunately, not about to end…
