According to the public criminal defender Octavio Sufán -who together with the lawyer Pablo Sanzana assumed the representation of the policeman- it was possible to establish that the carabinero was carrying out traffic control tasks at the time in which he was approached by a mob, a version that was ratified by the victim.
“Our client, after being approached by a group of about 20 protesters who beat him to the ground, drew his service weapon to disperse the young people, shooting at the ground.
