Power poles snapped, trees were uprooted, factories closed: Typhoon Doksuri made landfall in China. He had previously caused landslides in the Philippines.

With strong winds and heavy rains, “Doksuri” has reached the Chinese coast. The typhoon made landfall in the Fujian region in the southeast of the People’s Republic. The cities of Xiamen, Zhangzhou and Quanzhou are affected.

Power poles snapped and trees were uprooted. Factories and shopping centers were closed. There are also reports of damage to agriculture. Numerous train and flight connections have been cancelled. Pictures of flooded streets are shown on state television, rescue workers bring people to safety.

After Typhoon Doksuri, Xiamen, in the east Chinese province of Fujian, is seeing the aftermath.

Hundreds of thousands of people affected

According to state media, more than 700,000 people have been affected by the typhoon so far, and more than 100,000 people have had to leave their houses and apartments. “Doksuri” is expected to retreat to the northwest and continue to weaken.

The typhoon had previously struck the island of Taiwan and caused severe flooding and landslides, especially in the Philippines. At least 39 people died there. At least 26 people died in a boat accident east of the Philippine capital Manila. The boat was caught in strong winds and capsized.
