Six more works in Le Locle. The summer season was prolific for the Exomuseum. The Crêt-Vaillant district hosts half of the new frescoes created this year. These works evoke the Neuchâtel Revolution of 1848 for the one on the north-west facade of the Museum of Fine Arts), the legend of Marianne who drove the Burgundians out of the village in 1476 with the help of a furious bull. Grand-Rue 10 and the dramatic poem Agnès et le Triton written by Hans Christian Andersen during a stay in the Common Mother at rue du Crêt-Vaillant 22.

These frescoes are the work of the German Case Maclaim, the Ukrainian AEC interesni kazki and the Frenchman Abys. Until now, the curators of the Exomuseum had not yet taken over Crêt-Vaillant. It was first necessary to find buildings in this historic district, which offered the qualities necessary for the realization of monumental frescoes.

With works by the French Koralie in fir-tree style on rue Jean-d’Aarberg, by the Spaniard Dulk on smugglers’ dogs on rue du Tertre and by the Italian Peeta who transformed a building on rue des Marais a monumental work of art, the Exomuseum now has 39 original frescoes. Enough to compete with some major street-art cities, according to several artists who have come to illuminate the facades of Le Locle.

Bringing the Italian artist Peeta to Le Locle was a long process. Those in charge of the Exomuseum tried for four years to attract him to the common Mother. The work he is currently doing in rue des Marais is a good example of how the Exomuseum has changed the perception we have of the city. Thanks to visual corrections of the perspectives, Peeta transformed an architecturally ordinary building into a monumental work of art, according to François Balmer.

As part of the festivities linked to the 175th anniversary of the Neuchâtel Revolution, the fresco dedicated to this page of history, on the northwest facade of the Museum of Fine Arts, will be officially inaugurated this Saturday. The demonstration begins at 4 p.m. On the program: a show at the Museum of Fine Arts and the official part at the Hôtel de la Fleur de Lis, with an aperitif offered by the City of Le Locle. /cwi
