A fellow passenger who was handed over to trial for aiding and abetting actor Kim Sae-ron (23)’s drunk driving was sentenced to a fine in the first trial.

According to News 1 on the 12th, the 4th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Mr. A (21), who was charged with aiding and abetting a violation of the Road Traffic Act (Drunk Driving), to a fine of 5 million won.

The judge explained the reason for the sentencing, saying, “Considering the danger of drunk driving, the need for aiding and abetting charges is high,” but “it was a first-time offender with no criminal record.”

Mr. A was in the car at around 8:00 am on May 18 last year when Mr. Kim had an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, crashing into guardrails and roadside trees several times.

Mr. A was handed over to trial on charges of facilitating drunk driving, such as getting into the back seat of the vehicle and moving to the passenger seat at the request of Mr. Kim to operate the navigation system and entering the destination address.

At the time, the accident caused by Mr. Kim cut off electricity and paralyzed traffic lights in Sinsa-dong and Apgujeong-dong, causing inconvenience to merchants and residents.

At the time of Mr. Kim’s accident, his blood alcohol level was 0.227%, far exceeding the license revocation level (0.08%). Kim was sentenced to a fine of 20 million won in the first trial on the 5th for drunk driving.
