Electrical work: Highway 20 closed at the Ontario border

Work to restore the power grid led to the complete closure of a portion of Highway 20 and Highway 401 for more or less two hours Sunday morning at the Ontario border.

Hydro One explained that it had to repair part of its infrastructure damaged by the ice storm at the ONroute rest area in Bainsville, a few hundred meters from the provincial border.

As a result, the highway had to be closed to traffic to facilitate the work, said spokeswoman Kennisha Petgrave.

Work was scheduled to start around 7 a.m. and last until noon, but the section was finally able to reopen around 9:30 a.m.

The closure extended from Lancaster, Ont., to 69th Avenue in Rivière-Beaudette, Que., the Ontario Provincial Police said.

For its part, the Ministry of Transport said that Highway 20 was closed in the west direction for an indefinite period from 7:36 a.m.

Hydro-Quebec assured, for its part, not to have work in the sector which would require the closure of the highway.
