On X, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev thanked the billionaire who, according to a forthcoming biography, personally prevented a Ukrainian drone attack on Russian ships in Crimea.
Sincere thanks. The former Russian president and vice-president of Putin’s powerful security council Dmitry Medvedev sent a message this Thursday evening to Elon Musk, boss of X (ex-Twitter), SpaceX and Tesla, and influential business leader.
In an authorized biography of the billionaire, Walter Isaacson explains that Elon Musk personally prevented a Ukrainian drone attack against the Russian naval fleet in Crimea, by asking SpaceX engineers to cut off the Starlink signal.
“He’s the only one with balls”
This sign, widely used by Ukrainians for communications, was cut in order to jam the explosive-laden drones streaking towards their Russian targets. The operation in question is not precisely dated, but took place in 2022.
“If what [le journaliste Walter] Isaacson wrote in his book is true, so it looks like Musk is the last sane mind in North America. Or, at the very least, in a ‘genderless’ America, he’s the only one with balls,” writes on X Dmitri Medvedev.
According to the biographer, Elon Musk feared that Russia would respond to the drone attack with a nuclear response.
The billionaire has repeatedly mentioned the war in Ukraine since the start of the conflict in February 2022, in particular by offering his help to Ukrainians thanks to his Starlink satellite system.
Last October, he also distinguished himself by proposing a peace plan on his social networks. Elon Musk proposed to redo the annexation referendums of the eastern regions of Ukraine, but this time under the supervision of the UN. He also suggested recording the neutrality of Ukraine and the definitive attachment of Crimea to Russia.
This plan had been widely criticized by kyiv. “My very diplomatic answer is to go to see you”, had for example answered the Ukrainian ambassador in Germany Andriï Melnyk.
