Emirates News Agency – Bee’ah Group inaugurates a new plant to produce alternative green fuels from waste

From Batoul Kashwani.

Sharjah, 31st August / WAM / Bee’ah Recycling Company, the leading materials processing and recovery company affiliated with Bee’ah Group, has inaugurated the “Recovered Solid Fuel” station, which will constitute a major addition to the Bee’ah Waste Management Complex in Al Saja’a area in the Emirate of Sharjah, which is characterized by its advanced facilities that treat various types of waste. .

The idea of the new plant is that it will convert commercial waste residues into a high-quality alternative green fuel for use as fuel in cement factories, where it will be injected into kilns during the production process.

The “Recovered Solid Fuel” station is one of ten other facilities managed and operated by Bee’ah Recycling Company, which has so far contributed to diverting 76% of waste away from landfills in the Emirate of Sharjah, which is the highest rate in the Middle East region. That ratio and upgrading it.

Zakir Al Rabaya, CEO of Bee’ah Recycling Company, said in an exclusive statement to Emirates News Agency / WAM / that the new plant will achieve a double benefit by reducing carbon emissions from cement factories, while at the same time enhancing the rates of waste diversion away from landfills. It is a qualitative leap towards promoting a circular economy in our dear country and contributes to achieving the goal of completely diverting waste away from landfills. With the new station entering service, we are pleased to produce alternative and safe types of green fuels to be a first choice for cement factories.

Al Rabaya added, “Bee’ah Recycling Company is keen to offer new and integrated solutions in the field of completely diverting waste away from landfills, by applying the best practices in the region to extract valuable materials from various types of waste, thus supporting and consolidating the circular economy, which has a positive impact on the environment and enhances financial flows.” He pointed out that the “Recovered Solid Fuel” station adopts a purely commercial model, independent of gate fees to enter the Bee’ah Waste Management Complex.

It is noteworthy that the “Recovered Solid Fuel” plant is the first of its kind in the region and is considered a pioneering model for waste treatment. The alternative green fuel produced by the plant is a high-value, low-moisture fuel that contains a slight chlorine content, which provides a more sustainable alternative compared to coal, which is the traditional fuel used In cement production, the production capacity of the new plant is currently 85 thousand tons of alternative green fuels every year, at a rate of about 250 tons per day.

On the other hand, Sharjah Cement Company, located near the Bee’ah Waste Management Complex, has signed an agreement to obtain 73,000 tons per year of alternative green fuels from the new plant.

Pravinchandra Bhatavia, CEO of Sharjah Cement Factory, said: “We are pleased to sign the partnership agreement with Bee’ah Recycling Company and to use highly efficient alternative fuels instead of coal, enabling us to efficiently meet our production requirements and approach our sustainability goals as well as support the circular economy. contribute to reducing emissions.

Over the past two years, the “Recovered Solid Fuel” station has been subjected to hundreds of tests to ensure its compliance with safety and security conditions, as well as to ensure the quality of the extracted product. The station has produced hundreds of tons of alternative green fuel using commercial waste extracted from other Bee’ah recycling stations. In addition, a series of experiments were conducted in various international laboratories to verify the economic feasibility and conformity of the product to quality standards.

The Reclaimed Solid Fuels facility joins the other recycling facilities in the Bee’ah Recycling Complex where Bee’ah Recycling Company currently operates a number of facilities including the Materials Recovery Facility which is the third largest of its kind in the world and the Biomass Processing Facility which converts carbon and waste cellulose into clean fuels used in cement and paper mills.

The complex also includes an “alternative raw materials” facility that treats marine waste, including hazardous effluents, oil spills and oil tanker failures, a “metal recycling” facility that isolates metals, plastics and glass for use in steel plants, and a “tire recycling” facility that produces a range of A variety of rubber products by recycling old tires.

The “Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling” facility produces sidewalks and marble slabs from recycled building materials, while the “Industrial Wastewater Treatment” facility cleans and purifies 350 cubic meters of industrial wastewater per day, treats it and uses it in irrigation operations. The complex also includes a “Prevention” facility. It is a joint venture with the Green Planet Company for the treatment of medical waste.

The inauguration of the new facility comes as part of Bee’ah’s efforts to completely divert waste away from landfills, enhance the circular economy, reduce emissions and manufacture alternative fuels, thus consolidating the circular economy in the country and the region, in addition to achieving the goal of zero waste.
