Europe’s Eurosceptic Leaders Unite: NatCon24, Budapest CPAC, and AUR Conference

The most Eurosceptic parties are preparing to shake up the European electoral campaign in June with three rallies, during which they will promise to protect national sovereignty against the bureaucracy and wokism of Brussels.

Over the next two weeks, conservative, far-right and Eurosceptic leaders will tour Europe and hold rallies in Brussels, Budapest and Bucharest, which are expected to promote views similar to those of the former president American Donald Trump.

The series of controversial events will begin with the National Conservative Conference 2024, which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 16 and 17) in Brussels, despite pressure from activists and politicians, including anti-fascist organizations and the mayor of Brussels, for it to be canceled.

The  NatCon24 is expected to take place at Claridge in Brussels, after being rejected at the last minute from her first venue and being expelled by the police from the second.

Organized by the Edmund Burke Foundation, based in Washington, the conference will have as its theme “Preserving the nation-state in Europe”and will allow Europe’s Eurosceptic leaders to set out their vision.

Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiekci (PiS) and French presidential candidate Éric Zemmour (Reconquest!) are among the main participants, while Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (Fidesz), a close ally of Donald Trump and often on the front line against Brussels, will be the star of the event.

“Brussels has abandoned European citizens. Never before has the gap between Brussels policy and the interests and wishes of Europeans been so great. This is why change is needed in Brussels. But this change will not happen by itself: it must be imposed”Orbán said during his annual speech in February, emphasizing that elections in the United States and the European Union are part of the same process.

“Let’s make Europe great again”he added, asserting that the return of Donald Trump to the White House would bring peace to Ukraine.

Furthermore, Mr. Zemmour has always admired Mr. Trump, whom he considers an ally against “Islamization” , “the European bureaucracy”et “woke ideology” which, according to him, aims to “wipe out our culture, our identity and our history”.Mr. Zemmour is expected to address these three key points in his speech on Tuesday, according to his party sources.

Both men are ultraliberals with very conservative positions on social issues, including individual rights, Islam and immigration.

“We have something in common: Donald Trump wants the United States to remain the United States, and I want France to remain France” , said Mr. Zemmour in February 2022.

The  NatCon24  will also welcome Nigel Farage, former MEP and former leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) and Reform UK (formerly the Brexit Party), who strongly defended and campaigned for Brexit.

“No wokists zone”: welcome to the European CPAC

After the NatCon24from Brussels, Budapest will host the European version of the American CPAC on April 25 and 26 (Conservative Political Action Conference), which brings together American and foreign conservative activists and politicians.

The Budapest event, hosted by Mr Orbán, will bring together representatives of the US Republican Party and far-right leaders such as Geert Wilders (ID) of the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), Santiago Abascal of Vox (CRE) in Spain and Tom van Grieken (ID), president of the Belgian Vlaams Belang party, all described as “ wakebusters» on the conference website.

Several media, including The Guardian were refused their accreditation, arguing that it was a “zone prohibited for wokists”.

The motto of the gathering is “Let’s drain the swamp” a phrase commonly used by Mr. Trump to oust his political opponents in Washington and, in the case of Europe, pro-EU forces in Brussels.

The Romanian far right gets involved

The Alliance for Romanian Unity (AUR), Romania’s growing far-right party, organized its own conference « Make Europe Great Again »in Bucharest on April 27 and 28. Representatives of Mr. Zemmour’s Reconquest party (CRE), PiS (CRE) of Poland, Vlaams Belang (ID) of Belgium and the Danish People’s Party (ID) will take part.

Robert Malone, an American scientist who rose to prominence in the United States following the Covid-19 pandemic for spreading misinformation and conspiracy theories about the use of masks and messenger RNA vaccines, will be one of the speakers.

The conference will cover themes such as “The nations of Europe — between Eastern imperialism and Western federalism”et“There is strength in unity, division brings downfall — the prospects of overthrowing the established order in EU institutions.”
