Eva Nemčovská Becomes First Female Mayor of Trnava After Historic Victory

Eva Nemčovská will become the first female mayor in the history of Trnava, securing a decisive victory in the municipal elections with 60.47 percent of the vote.

The election marks a significant political transition for the western Slovak city after 12 years under outgoing Peter Bročka, who chose not to seek another term. Turnout in the city reached 41.96 percent, according to official data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic.

A Historic Win and a Nod to Predecessor Collaboration

Speaking at a morning briefing in the city center, Nemčovská thanked voters and described her four-year mandate as an immense responsibility, noting that it extends to the electorate that did not cast a ballot for her. She served as Bročka’s vice-mayor for eight years before launching her mayoral campaign.

“All decisions are made for the people of Trnava,” Nemčovská told media, highlighting that her campaign emphasized continuity and structured teamwork rather than just an individual personality.

Nemčovská coordinated with Bročka during her campaign despite him not being part of her core team, and she intends to engage him regarding potential post-election cooperation.

Runner-up Branislav Baroš finished second with 30.87 percent of the vote (6,848 votes), followed by Martin Pullmann with 3.72 percent, Andrea Čajková with 3.35 percent, Jozef Obselka with 1.20 percent, and Ľubica Horváthová with 0.36 percent, who had previously withdrawn from the race. Baroš acknowledged the results on social media, congratulating Nemčovská on her victory and wishing her success in her new role.

Dominance in the Municipal Assembly

Nemčovská’s local political platform, Lepšia Trnava, achieved a commanding presence in the municipal assembly, capturing 21 out of the 27 available councillor seats. Expressing pleasant surprise at the margin following tight pre-election polls, Nemčovská emphasized that the supermajority demands collaborative governance rather than routine rubber-stamping.

“It is a great commitment for us not to escape the essence of deciding consensually or agreeing so that it is not a silent approval of materials,” she stated.

Addressing the composition of the future city leadership, Nemčovská indicated that decisions regarding the vice-mayor position and cabinet assignments will follow, pending individual discussions with people who will be in the future city leadership.

Immediate Priorities for the Term Ahead

Having worked inside the municipal office for eight years, Nemčovská noted that her administration will not require a standard hundred-day settling-in period to understand ongoing processes. Her immediate agenda focuses on advancing projects of regional and national significance and incorporating funding for the second phase of courtyard revitalizations on Golianova Street into the upcoming 2027 municipal budget.
