Veterans of World of Warcraft are demanding that Blizzard Entertainment restore foundational character animations ahead of the upcoming launch of World of Warcraft: Forever. A community petition organized by Preserve Azeroth argues that female character models no longer replicate the exact physical movements seen in World of Warcraft: Classic, sparking a push for transparency and visual rollback.
The Physics Discrepancy in Character Models
Created on October 21, the petition rapidly gained traction. It secured 310 verified signatures out of its 500-signature target, with more than half of those endorsements added within a single 24-hour window. Video comparisons submitted by the organizers place the two client versions side by side. The side-by-side footage tracks avatars while walking, running, standing idle, fighting, and dancing.
According to the petition text, the chest movement present in the classic build has either vanished entirely or been heavily mitigated in World of Warcraft: Forever. Additional variances show up in idle breathing cycles, other movements, and facial expression mapping. Developers have yet to publish technical documentation explaining why these mesh parameters shifted during the transition.
“We don’t know exactly what changed behind the scenes. We ask Blizzard to investigate the differences and restore the original behavior of the animation,” Preserve Azeroth stated.
The Precedent Set by Original Model Restorations
This community friction arrives on the heels of a previous visual concession by the development team. Earlier in the testing pipeline, testers pushed back against high-definition-only character assets. YouTuber Savix detailed how Clay Stone, assistant production director, previously committed to advocating for the retention of original character models. That grassroots feedback loop successfully restored the legacy assets.
The petition explicitly calls on Blizzard to audit movement and facial rigging, while issuing a public statement on whether the alterations were intentional design choices or unintended side effects of engine optimization.
World of Warcraft: Forever Launches November 5 2026
The software landscape surrounding the title remains fluid as the deployment date approaches. World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch on November 5, 2026. Anticipation metrics currently sit at an average rating of 6.7 out of 10 across tracking platforms.
Whether Blizzard will deploy a hotfix or patch to recalibrate the skeletal rigs before the November release remains unconfirmed.
