Federal Agent Shoots and Kills Gunman at Pilsen Homeless Encampment
An off-duty FBI agent shot and killed a 27-year-old man on October 26, 2026, after observing him firing a gun into a homeless encampment in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood, FOX News reported.
The shooting occurred near West 18th Street and South Union Avenue. The FBI’s Chicago Field Office confirmed the incident involving the agent, who was commuting home alone in a Bureau-issued vehicle when they witnessed the gunfire and opened fire.
Emergency Response and Investigation at the Scene
Chicago police officers responded to the scene in the 1700 block of South Union Avenue. The department’s Investigative Response Team deployed to document the incident, while the Chicago Fire Department transported one person to a hospital following the gunfire. No other injuries were reported from the shooting.
Illinois State Police troopers were also present at the scene to assist with traffic control. The FBI’s Inspection Division is reviewing the incident in accordance with agency policy, though authorities have not released additional information regarding what led up to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Victim Identification and Immigration Background
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man who died as Oscar D. Isaya-Corrales. According to fox32chicago.com, Isaya-Corrales was a Venezuelan immigrant who was seen firing into the encampment before the federal agent intervened.
Federal officials confirmed that Isaya-Corrales was in the country illegally. In 2023, during the prior administration, he was taken into custody at the border but subsequently released. Reports also indicate he was previously arrested in California and released from custody despite an active ICE detainer.
