Flash floods, strong winds and hail: Monday afternoon will be eventful

The warm, humid air mass that encompasses Quebec today – causing feelings in the 35+ – and the passage of a system will be responsible for the instability and uplift that caused the thunderstorms to form. .

Moderate risk of severe thunderstorms

Monday afternoon will be marked by a moderate risk of severe thunderstorms which will come with its share of possible consequences. Conditions are conducive to the formation of supercells during the afternoon, particularly for the Outaouais and Laurentides sectors. Flash floods and other disturbances could be caused by high winds, heavy rain and hail.

Good to know : a supercell is a violent thunderstorm that is more organized and characterized by the presence of an upward movement which enters into rotation. This is likely to produce tornadoes, large hail and strong winds.

Due to the large amount of water available in the clouds and the water vapor present in the atmosphere, heavy showers are possible, especially during the most intense disturbances. Up to 50 mm of water could fall on the affected areas in a short time.

Late night risk

The risk shifts towards the end of the evening during the night on the more southern sectors of Quebec as the warm front passes. Certain sectors of Estrie, Montérégie and the metropolitan region of Montreal could hear thunder rumble and see the rain fall overnight from Monday to Tuesday.

Hot and humid weather

The risk goes up a notch on Tuesday. Indeed, it was at this time that the cold front swept through most of Quebec, creating a major uprising. A line of heavy thunderstorms could therefore form along the front, and the severe weather could hit even harder.
