Flipstar Gymnasts Earn 25 Medals at Cedar Point Season Opener

Five members of the Flipstar Gymnastics competitive team opened their season at the Flipping at the Point Monster Meet at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, securing 25 top-10 medals. Competing among a field of more than 80 team members, the gymnasts collected 10 podium finishes early in the competitive calendar.

Season Outlook

  • Season Trajectory: Early-season podium finishes indicate progress as athletes are still learning their routines.
  • Roster Depth: With over 80 team members, Flipstar’s competitive team maintains a broad roster.
  • Upcoming Fixtures: The team shifts focus to hosting its first home meet of the season on November 21-22 against competitors from across Michigan.

Opening the Season at Cedar Point

The early-season meet provided a test for the five traveling Flipstar gymnasts. Alongside the competition, participants took advantage of the venue’s HalloWeekends festivities, receiving five-day passes to the amusement park. Flipstar co-owner and head team coach Aimee Goff noted the difficulty of competing early in the year.

“To compete this early in the season is a tough feat for even seasoned competitors as they are all still working on learning their routines, but to do a big meet like this as your first ever competition takes a lot of courage,” Goff said. Three of the competing gymnasts were making their competitive debuts.

Level Breakdown and Podium Results

In the Xcel Silver division, Nola Randle secured four podium finishes, claiming first-place titles on the balance beam and floor exercise. Randle added a third-place finish on vault and ninth place in another event, taking second overall in the all-around competition. Ryah Nichols, competing at the Xcel Silver level for the first time, earned sixth-, seventh-, eighth-, and 10th-place event medals, finishing eighth in the all-around standings.

At the Xcel Bronze level, Emilya Miszewski competed in her first gymnastics meet, collecting fourth-, sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-place event medals to finish seventh in the all-around. In the Xcel Copper division, Eliza Miszewski and Joanna Petersen both competed in their first competitive meet. Eliza Miszewski reached the podium in all four events, winning the vault, placing second on uneven bars and floor exercise, and taking third on balance beam to finish second in the all-around. Petersen contributed a third-place finish on vault, alongside fourth-, sixth-, and seventh-place event medals, placing seventh in the all-around.

Looking Ahead to the First Home Meet

Following the weekend fixture, the younger gymnasts supported each other throughout the competition and left the meet excited about their accomplishments. One Xcel Copper competitor was overheard saying, “I can’t even believe this is happening to me!” after receiving her five medals.

Flipstar will host its first home meet of the season on November 21-22. More than 80 team members are expected to compete against visiting programs from throughout Michigan in an event open to spectators. Competition schedules and spectator information are posted on the Flipstar Gymnastics Facebook page.
