They had come with the family to eat a burger and finally left in disaster accompanied by the firefighters following the injury of their child Ilyess, 7, who violently hit the edge at the bottom of a window when coming out of a slide. The incident occurred last Tuesday evening on the playground of McDonald’s de la Bretèche in Amiens, reports the Courrier Picard.
The child played on the slide while the family took the order. “Suddenly we saw Ilyess in blood, he fell on an angle of the bay window which separates the playground from the restaurant. There’s no rubber to protect the bottom of the glass and he’s had his ear cut off. We do not understand that it is not more protected”, underlines Jaida Duart, the aunt of Ilyess. The family went to complain to the manager of the fast food restaurant. “He makes us understand that this is an accident that can happen anywhere. He offered us a free meal. You can imagine that after his injury, Ilyess no longer wants to come back here”.
“Following the accident, he may later have one ear larger than the other”
According to the family, Ilyess had his ear cut in two, and a surgeon found that he would later have stunted ear growth and it will be detached. “In the future, he risks having one ear bigger than the other”, continues his aunt. A family waiting for McDonald’s to return. “For the moment we have not had a return from McDo, which was to get closer to its insurance in relation to the dispute. If we have no news on Monday, we will file a complaint, ”says Jaida Duart, surprised that the playground is not closed following this accident.

For his part, the manager of McDonald’s, Manuel Thelier, believes that his brand has nothing to be ashamed of. “The playground has been open since last April. The safety committee checked the installations and validated them. The game is new and parents must supervise their children, and it is clearly displayed in the rules. We are a restaurant, not a daycare centre. A manager who specifies that the child was running and fell on the ledge at the bottom of the bay window. Since the accident, plastic has been added to this same rim.
“What matters to me today is the health of the child. I understand that he is sad. I made a statement to the insurance, but I remind you, it’s up to parents to watch their children. This is also why the playground is protected by glass so that parents can see them from the restaurant. As for the free meal offered, it is in no way a matter of compensation. “I told them they could come back and that I would provide a meal. It’s normal because they had to leave in a hurry without even finishing theirs.
