‘football icons’ – adidas presents a retro collection of football shirts inspired by the 90’s

The three-stripe brand has unveiled a range dubbed “football icons taking up the style of the jerseys of the 90s, among the biggest clubs of which it is a partner and the Squad Azure.

For several years, the football jersey has been democratized as a fashion accessory in its own right. Often celebrities or footballers themselves have fun wearing old jerseys. This was for example the case of Kim Kardashian. Recently, she appeared with the jersey of the 1997-1998 season of AS Roma (Diadora).

Or even Memphis Depay with a Manchester United jersey, flocked with the number 7 at the time, David Beckham.

Today, brands are surfing on this trend of retro-marketing. They no longer hesitate to bring out old models or to make reissues. Recently, it is adidas who distinguished himself with the “football icons ». The German brand thus imagined what “the tunic of the biggest European clubs could have looked like if they had been partners in the 90s”.

A 3-star logo for Italy

Thus, we find in this range the Celticl’Ajax, Arsenal, Boca Juniors, Bayern Munich, but also Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United as well as River Plate or even Flamengo.

Their style takes up the fashion of the ” adidas Equipment which the brand used at the time. Because even if all these clubs are now under the banner adidasmost of them were not at the time (Real Madrid, Juventus, Celtic…).

A loose fit, the brand and club logos in the center of the jersey, and three colored stripes on the sides. Even if certain colors surprise, in particular that of Bayern Munich, the result is rather successful. It also comes with shorts, tracksuits and goalkeeper jerseys.

To celebrate the recent arrival of the Italian selection in the family adidasa jersey in the colors of the Squad Azura is also part of the collection. It is therefore the old logo of the federation with only 3 stars (Italy having won its fourth World Cup in 2006) which is displayed.

It is for everyone “fans passionate about football, its culture and the heritage of their club, and who are nostalgic for past fashions…» explain adidas. All jerseys are available for sale today at the price of 80€ on the brand’s website, in a selection of stores and at selected retailers.
