It was reported on the 19th that former Minister of Culture and Tourism Kim Myeong-gon (71), famous for appearing in the movie ‘Seopyeonje’, was indicted on sexual harassment charges.

According to this paper’s coverage, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office recently indicted former Minister Kim without detention on charges of forcible harassment.

Former Minister Kim is accused of making unwanted physical contact with the victim twice during a conversation with the victim, who was a subordinate, during the production of a musical for which he was the overall director around May 2014. Former Minister Kim reportedly denied the charges and stated that there was a misunderstanding on the part of the victim.

Former Minister Kim founded the theater company ‘Arirang’ in 1986 after working with the theater companies ‘Sangwang’ and ‘Yeonwoo Stage’. He wrote the screenplay and played the main character ‘Yubong’ in the movie ‘Seopyeonje’ and received the 1993 Blue Dragon Film Award for Best Actor.

Afterwards, he took office as director of the National Theater in 2000, and served as Minister of Culture and Tourism in 2006 during the Roh Moo-hyun administration.
