Moritz Seider was also successful with a pass in the 6-1 thrashing of the Detroit Red Wings in Vancouver.

Even after the game was over, the Calgary Flames still seemed a bit surprised at how they could still lose this game. They had made more shots on goal, won more face-offs, scored more than the hosts – and after Brady Tkachuk’s solo lead in the Senators early on, they turned the game around after a precise pass from Tim Stützle. In addition, after about 47 minutes they took a reasonably comfortable lead of 3:1 – supposedly! Because the Ottawa Senators went all out early and took their goalie Mads Sogaard off the ice. The Danish two-meter giant, who only joined the team after the injury of the two regular Sens keepers, had done well up to that point. And the risk should pay off.

Drake Batherson’s shot and Alex DeBrincat’s direct shot from a tight angle tied the game within 46 seconds of the closing stages. It was the Sens’ latest comeback from a deficit of more than a goal in their franchise history. Tim Stützle was involved in both goals with the primary assist before he himself ensured the happy ending for Canada’s capital city in extra time.

In the extra shift, the focus was once again on Mads Sogaard, who twice had to save against the Flames offensive in dire need and ended up with 34 of 37 saved shots on goal. After almost two minutes in overtime, however, Tim Stützle came off the bench at just the right moment to accept a pass from Thomas Chabot at full speed. He got the better of the Flames defender and fired a wrist shot into a close corner.

The hall was raging – and the senators could look forward to an unusual comeback. They have a positive record of 25 wins and 24 losses.

Moritz Seider also experienced an extraordinary evening with the Detroit Red Wings. They won 6-1 at the Vancouver Canucks, who just changed coaches. Dylan Larkin scored the lead for the guests from Michigan after eleven minutes with a remarkable solo effort: Moritz Seider stabbed the disc in his own zone after a cross pass from the Canucks from his own third – and thus delivered the perfect pass right in the middle between the two defenders of the hosts. Larkin came up and then completed his forehand-backhand movement with a shot through the legs of Vancouver keeper Colin Delia.

Larkin increased with a man over 36 seconds before the first siren for the Red Wings before the Canucks cut back after a minute and a half in the middle. After that, however, the guests were no longer deterred and safely wrapped up a clear away win. Canucks coach Rick Tocchet was then completely served – after five games in the gang of western Canadians he has only two wins.

With the win, the Red Wings are just five points shy of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Buffalo Sabers, who lost 5-2 at the LA Kings, are also behind. The team from New York State conceded five goals in a row between the 10th and 26th minute of the game. After that, the sabers could only shorten.

JJ Peterka was not used in the game for the Sabers.
