France-Morocco: Benkirane tackles Macron

Abdelilah Benkirane joined the voices accusing France of being the instigator of the resolution calling for the release of journalists detained in Morocco, adopted on January 19, by the plenary of the European Parliament.

He thus seized an internal meeting of his political formation, held on Sunday in Casablanca, to shoot arrows in the direction of Emmanuel Macron, reports the PJD website. “The current leadership of France understands nothing. There is a big difference between the current presidency and the era of De Gaulle and the others”, indicated the secretary general of the Party of the Lamp.

Benkirane estimated that France has a “leadership that sees no further than the end of its nose and is eyeing gas” Algerian but “Morocco has no gas to give you (…) I tell them that the problem gas will be solved (in the future), but Morocco will remain Morocco: a free, strong and independent state”, he underlined in a speech in front of the members of his party. “I do not blame the French for wanting to reconcile with Algeria” but Benkirane insisted on warning against a reunion between Algiers and Paris taking place to the “detriment of Morocco”.

As a reminder, in November 2020 in the midst of the controversy over the cartoons of the Prophet, Abdelilah Benkirane had asked French President Emmanuel Macron to apologize to muslims.
