After the military coup in Gabon, the new ruler General Brice Oligui Nguema will be sworn in as interim president before the country’s constitutional court on Monday. The 48-year-old is set to lead the small Central African country following the military deposed longtime head of state Ali Bongo Ondimba following his questionable election victory. Nguema has already announced that he wants to make the state institutions that were dissolved following the coup more democratic.

The military justified last Wednesday’s coup with a “serious institutional, political, economic and social crisis” in the country. General Oligui accuses Bongo of corruption. The Bongo family had ruled the oil-rich country for more than 55 years.
