What a number! Don Jackson is playing his 1000th game as a coach in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) with EHC Red Bull Munich today (3:15 p.m.).
“It was always fun for me. The challenges bring energy and emotions with them – but all I can do is be grateful for the opportunity to coach here,” Jackson said before the milestone in Munich’s own stadium against the Adler Manheim.
The 66-year-old American didn’t want to get melancholic beforehand. “I’m very proud to have been here for so long. But I’m not looking too far ahead. The next game is always the most important thing for me,” emphasized multiple champion coach Jackson, who spent 2005/06 with the DEG Metro Stars took over his first head coaching position in the DEL.
