The current study by the gas station chain HEM on the subject also shows what preferences Germans have when traveling on vacation. 1388 people over the age of 18 were asked where the journey is leading them to and how they want to organize their holiday trip. Despite rising prices and the current conflicts, the results fit into the previous picture: Germans travel, and they prefer to do so by car.

81 percent of Germans decide to go on holiday again this year. 76 percent of them get into a car for the journey. If the journey is managed in their own vehicle, it should not be more than 1000 kilometers for well over half of Germans (68 percent). Nevertheless, one in four (25 percent) dares to cover a distance of up to 2,000 kilometers. Twelve percent travel by plane. Despite the new opportunities offered by the Deutschlandticket, only three percent of those surveyed in this study choose to travel by train for upcoming domestic trips.

13 percent of the participants prefer to vacation in their own country, preferably on the Baltic Sea (28 percent) or the North Sea (21 percent). When choosing a destination in Europe, many opt for warmer climes: Italy (12 percent) and Spain (11 percent) remain among the most popular destinations.
