Germany Wins U17 European Championship: Exciting Final Against France Ends in Penalties

Germany is U17 European Champion!

The team coached by Christian Wück (49) has secured the European title for the first time since 2009 – back then with Mario Götze (turns 31 on Saturday) and Marc-André ter Stegen (31). In the final in Budapest, the DFB boys defeated France 5:4 on penalties

Shock after 30 seconds!

France has the opportunity to take the lead after 30 seconds, but the Mainzer Dal can just clear it. In the quarter-finals against Switzerland (4:3 on penalties) he still sees a red card and is missing in the semi-finals against Poland (5:3).

However, this is the only option for the French. Freiburg’s Darvich (37th minute) misses Germany’s best chance with a direct free kick.

High speed, lots of excitement, but few chances.

France comes out of the break better. Jeltsch (60th) prevented the German deficit with a “monster slide” against Lambourde.

The French are pushing for the lead. Goalkeeper Schmitt prevented France from taking the lead against Gomis in the 70th minute.

Bad luck for Germany! Ten minutes later, Bence Dardai (son of Hertha coach Pal Dardai) nailed a free kick to the bottom of the bar.

In stoppage time, Schmitt saves the German team with a class save in the penalty shoot-out.

911 drama in Budapest!

After 90 goalless minutes, it goes straight to penalties. After all, Germany has better nerves there. Ouedraogo converts the crucial penalty for the DFB boys.

Germany is playing an outstanding tournament overall. In the preliminary round, our U17s delivered three convincing victories and even turned a 0-1 deficit into a 3-1 against final opponent France in the second group game.

The happy quarter-final success against Switzerland is followed by the spectacle against Poland in the semi-finals. Now the exciting finale with the happier end for Germany.
