The Pew Research Center, a think tank in Washington DC, recently released a survey in the spring of 2023, which found that 48% of people in 24 middle- and high-income countries around the world hold a positive view of Taiwan, and 28% hold a negative view. People in South Korea and Australia generally have a favorable view of Taiwan.

According to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center, 24 middle- and high-income countries generally have favorable views on Taiwan. 48% of people hold a positive view of Taiwan, 28% hold a negative view, and 25% have no opinion. On the other hand, Japan has the most positive attitude towards Taiwan, with 82% of people having a favorable opinion of Taiwan; more than 70% of Koreans and Australians also have a favorable opinion of Taiwan.

More than 60% of Israelis and Americans also like Taiwan. Argentina, Brazil, Greece, and Hungary have similar positive and negative views on Taiwan, while only India and South Africa have more negative views on Taiwan than positive views. As far as we know, the mainland is not in the country under investigation.

Those who have a favorable view of Taiwan say that, to some extent, they believe that the mainland is interfering in the affairs of other countries. The three South African countries, Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya, have positive attitudes towards the mainland, and the highest proportion of negative attitudes towards Taiwan.

It is worth noting that adults in 15 of the 24 countries have no opinion of Taiwan, such as Argentina, Hungary, Greece, Brazil and South Africa. In these countries, people think less about Taiwan than about the mainland, 49% of Hungarians have no opinion of Taiwan, and 8% of people have no opinion of China.

In this regard, Ge Laiyi, a scholar on both sides of the Taiwan Strait in Washington, tweeted that the survey shows that many countries have a very positive attitude towards Taiwan, but there are still a large number of people who do not have a deep understanding of Taiwan and cannot express their opinions. China, Canada, Indonesia and other countries need to make more efforts.
