Expansion of automobile acquisition tax reduction for ‘multiple children’ and ‘infant/toddler fast track’ are also considered

First Vice Minister of Health and Welfare Lee Ki-il and Hong Seok-cheol, a standing member of the Low Birth Rate and Aging Society Committee, are talking at the party-government conference on customized support measures for infertile multiple births held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul on the afternoon of the 13th.

The Low Birth Rate and Aging Society Committee, which oversees the government’s low birth rate and aging society policy, announced on the 4th that it is considering a plan to allow households with three or more children to use expressway bus lanes.

Currently, only vehicles with 9 or more passengers and 6 or more people can use expressway bus lanes, but the plan is to allow vehicles of households with multiple children to use them to encourage childbirth.

A low-ranking official explained, “This is something that is being reviewed at the level of an idea within the committee, and is not an issue being discussed with the responsible ministry.”

The high-ranking committee is also reviewing at the committee level a plan to install a multi-child-friendly parking lot that allows families with multiple children to use public parking lots first, and a plan to create a fast-track system that allows families with infants and young children to enter national and public facilities first.

In addition, we are also considering ways to expand the multi-child car acquisition tax reduction benefit from households with three or more children to households with two children, and to expand incentives in the family-friendly certified company system, which provides incentives such as tax credits to family-friendly management companies.

The high-ranking committee plans to revise the 4th Basic Plan for a Low Birth Rate and Aging Society (2021-2025), which is currently in effect, early next year, and is considering what new policy tasks to include along with government ministries.

The basic plan for a low birth rate and aging society has been established and implemented every five years since 2006. In the meantime, when a new government takes office during the implementation of the basic plan, related policy directions have been presented by revising the contents of the basic plan.

This government presented a policy direction centered on low birth rate measures last March, but has not yet released a revised basic plan.
