TASS, 24 March. Tottenham striker Harry Kane has set the record for most goals for the England national football team. The forward scored on Thursday in the away match of the first round of the qualifying tournament for the European Championship 2024 against the Italian team.
Kane converted the penalty in the 44th minute of the meeting. The 29-year-old striker scored the 54th goal in the national team and bypassed Wayne Rooney on this indicator. The meeting ended with the score 2:1 in favor of England. The British, in addition to Kane, scored Declan Rice (13th minute), the Italians scored a goal Mateo Retegui (56). In the 80th minute, defender Luke Shaw was removed from the British.
Kane played his first match for England in March 2015, with a total of 81 matches, 54 goals and 17 assists for the national team. Together with the national team, he became the silver medalist of the European Championship in 2021 and the bronze medalist of the League of Nations in 2019.
