Heavy rains, floods and landslides in Brazil; 104 people died

At least 104 people have been killed in heavy rains and floods in the Brazilian city of Petropolis. Petropolis is located in the foothills of the Rio de Janeiro state. The death toll from the fire was released by the fire department on Thursday. The total rainfall in February is expected to fall only on Tuesday. This led to landslides and floods. Houses and vehicles were destroyed in the floods.

Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro said the situation was “war-like” and that firefighters and local security forces were working at the scene. Brazilian President Jair Bolzoni has promised all possible assistance to those in the region. He said he would visit the site on Friday and was currently on an official visit to Russia and Hungary.
