After a turbulent week for the health system, with the crisis due to the shortage of medicines and the lawsuit between EPS Sanitas and Cruz Verde, it was expected that about half of the articles that were pending from the last session would be voted on today.

However, just a few minutes before there was a decision-making quorum to formally start the session, the debate on the reform was unanimously postponed.

This week the discussion between the opposition and the ruling party will revolve around the serious crisis that the health system is currently suffering.

Among what remains to be discussed are some of the most controversial articles. For example, article 131, which refers to voluntary agreements; 32, which addresses the creation of the National Health Council; or 53, with which payments to EPSs of up to 8 percent for their management are approved.

Although the Government is confident that the project will be able to advance and move on to its third debate thanks to having the support of ‘the U’ and the liberals, who were essential in the last session, the truth is that what happened during the last days maintains the expectation about the executive’s ability to promote his project.

This is because congressmen from opposition sectors have accused the Government of generating a crisis in the health system with the aim of forcing the approval of the reform project.

For example, the senator of the Radical Change party, Carlos Fernando Motoa, assured, regarding the drug crisis that the country is experiencing, that the government of President Gustavo Petro “is causing a crisis in the system that justifies its health reform.” “.

While President Gustavo Petro insisted this Wednesday through his account on the social network X that the State is up to date with payments and blamed the EPS for the crisis in the health system. For this reason, he asked that the bill be approved as a mechanism to solve current problems.

“What does our health reform do? Return to the principle of the right to health mandated by the national Constitution,” said the president.
