Pharrell Williams is back in fashion
The American succeeds the late Virgil Abloh as head of menswear at Vuitton.
The stylist Virgil Abloh, and his jack-of-all-trades genius, had succeeded in infusing the venerable house of Vuitton with a bit of savagery street. With this skate, art and music fan, the famous logo, one of the most plagiarized in the world, regained muscle. Alas, the American was taken away at the age of 41 in November 2021 by cancer, leaving a cruel void. Pharrell Williamssuch a cosmopolitan creator, was thus called to the rescue.
At 49, his business card impresses, the native of Virginia posing as a composer, performer, artistic director, musician, producer, stylist, etc. There is no doubt that the author of “Happy”, an interplanetary hit in 2014, will be able to express himself within the LVMH group. The House of Bernard Arnault announced in January record figures for the second year in a row, despite the health crisis that has hit its trade relations with privileged territories such as China. European, American and Japanese customers have been able to make up for these losses – the group’s sales have increased by 9% during the last three months, with net profit reaching 14 billion francs.
Pietro Beccari, transferred from Dior to the head of Vuitton, welcomed the commitment of Pharrell Williams: “I am happy to see him return home after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008. His vision as a designer beyond the fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton to a new and exciting chapter.” The results of this association will already be visible next June, during Fashion Week in Paris.
In the past, Pharrell often flirted with fashion, creating here for Kenzo, Adidas, Timberland, there for Vuitton the Millionaires eyewear collection in the aviator style very fashionable at the time and now outdated. Who knows how far the founder of the “Billionaire Boys Club” will wear his sneakers, his clothes and his looks? Let’s bet that the next campaign will tell us.
