Nicolás Maduro referred this Monday to the accusations that emerged on Sunday against the former president from Argentina Mauricio Macri, when some documents were revealed in which it is allegedly found that he ordered the troops of that country to prepare for an eventual armed intervention in Venezuela.

“They say that Mauricio Macri ordered the Argentine troops to prepare to invade Venezuela. A complaint like this seems credible to me, because the continental right went to the extreme of breaking all the political rules of coexistence,” Maduro said.

“Hopefully someone in Argentina dares to carry out an investigation, so that the truth is known,” he added.

The controversy broke out on Sunday when the Argentine media rocket to the moon disclosed an article signed by the writer Horacio Verbitsky. This reports on a series of documents from the General Directorate of Intelligence of the Armed Forces of Argentina.

The documents supposedly confirm a commitment by Macri to involve the Armed Forces if the United States decided to intervene militarily in Venezuela.

The date of the documents (early 2019) coincides with the recognition by the United States and Argentina of Juan Guaidó as interim president of Venezuela.

«Between April and July 2019, the Army carried out the ‘Puma’ exercise, which contemplated the invasion of Venezuela. The exercise was carried out in seven sessions at the Campo de Mayo garrison and by videoconference with the parachute brigade from Córdoba, the X Mechanized Brigade from La Pampa and the commandos of the Special Operations Force, also from Córdoba. It also included coordination with units of the Navy and the Air Force. In command was General Juan Martín Paleo, who was then commander of the rapid deployment force. Since March 2020 he is head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces », the article points out.
