Israeli army prepares “for all scenarios” after violence in Jerusalem

The Israeli government affirmed that it will defend itself against attacks by terrorist groups such as Hamas, which seek to disturb the peace on days when three of the most important religious celebrations in the world are celebrated: Easterfor Christians; Pesajfor the Jews and the holy month of ramadan, for Muslims.

While Israel is doing everything possible to ensure that Muslims, Jews and Christians can celebrate Ramadan, Passover and Easter in peace, Hamas and its extremist Palestinian followers are targeting innocent civilians with violence and rockets.”, expressed the government of the country, after there have been clashes in Jerusalem, specifically on the Temple Mount, next to the Wailing Wall and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

In recent days, Israeli police have fired tear gas and rubber bullets at Palestinians piling up stones and firecrackers at one of the most disputed holy sites on the planet. Violence has spread across Israel and the West Bankand insurgents from as far away as Gaza and Lebanon responded with projectiles.

Faced with these attacks, Israel responded with unusual air strikes in Lebanon this Friday and continued to bombard the Gaza Stripin an escalation that raised fears of a broader conflict.

Although Israel’s northern and southern borders had returned to calm, the early morning Israeli offensive against Lebanon — which analysts called the most serious cross-border violence since the 2006 war between Israel and the Lebanese insurgent group Hezbollah — threatened to take the confrontation to a new phase.

The Israeli army said it was looking for those responsible for the shooting in west bank and established roadblocks. No insurgent group immediately claimed responsibility. But Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem hailed the attack “in retaliation for the crimes committed by Israel at the mosque in Al-Aqsa and in the West Bank.

The Israeli army said it reinforced its infantry and artillery forces in a defensive move to “prepare for all possible scenarios”. A Palestinian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters, said Egyptian security forces were working with Hamas and Israel to defuse tensions, according to AP.
