The 43-year-old actor explained that the trauma of those midday meals left a lasting physical aversion. He told the podcast hosts that he regularly hid in school bathrooms simply to escape eating primary school lunches.

“It’s a pure, like visceral association with I think… like I vomited on a teacher. Who force-fed me some of these things one day at school. I would hide in the toilet to not have to eat my primary school lunches. It was brutal.”

Garfield elaborated on the severity of the experience during the interview, remarking that school dinners felt akin to a version of waterboarding but with like mashed potato and loose sweetcorn.

Andrew Garfield Dislikes Loose Sweetcorn

While Garfield noted that school lunches seemed to have negatively affected everyone to a certain degree, the primary casualty of his school days remains loose sweetcorn. Despite counting corn on the cob among his favorite foods when prepared with plenty of butter, he cannot eat the kernels off the cob.

“So, I can’t have corn off the cob. On the cob is one thing. On the cob is actually one of my favourite things. With a lot of butter. Off the cob, I can’t do it.”

The actor’s frank and colorful recollection prompted laughter from Nick and Angela during the dinner-and-conversation episode. During the recording, Garfield was served a smash cheeseburger with burger sauce.
