On Wednesday evening, passengers aboard a regional flight in Quebec’s Côte-Nord region successfully subdued a man who attempted to force his way into the cockpit, prompting an emergency landing at La Romaine Airport.
Mid-Air Crisis and Emergency Return to La Romaine
The aircraft was operating a scheduled route between Blanc-Sablon and Sept-Îles, with a mandatory stop planned at La Romaine. According to details provided by Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Marc Tessier, the security incident unfolded shortly after the flight departed from that coastal stopover.
Roughly 10 minutes into the second leg of the journey, the flight crew initiated a turnaround to bring the aircraft back to La Romaine. During the airborne disturbance, a male passenger in his thirties allegedly attempted to open the door leading to the flight deck and caused physical damage to the door of the aircraft’s lavatory.
Faced with the immediate security threat, fellow passengers stepped in and managed to physically restrain the individual before the plane touched down. Law enforcement was notified of the onboard crisis at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Police Arrest Suspect as Passengers Suffer Psychological Shock
Upon landing at La Romaine Airport, officers from the Sûreté du Québec were waiting on the tarmac to take the suspect into custody. The individual was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment, though authorities confirmed his life is not in danger.
The aircraft carried a total of 13 passengers alongside a three-person crew comprising two pilots and a single flight attendant. While law enforcement confirmed that no physical injuries were sustained during the altercation, several travelers suffered acute psychological shock from the ordeal.
Following the emergency landing and police intervention, the affected passengers were transferred to a subsequent flight so they could complete their journey to Sept-Îles. Investigators with the Sûreté du Québec have launched an ongoing inquiry to determine what formal criminal charges will be filed against the suspect.
