“It’s a rumor going around”, what’s behind Israel’s raid –

New escalation of the conflict in the Middle East which now risks spreading dangerously. Israel hit Damascus, the capital of Syria, with a raid, hitting an Iranian consulate building and killing several Pasdaran, including General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy. On Quarta Repubblica, on Rete4, there is the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, who responds to the question of the host Nicola Porro: “Is a new front opening up?”. “It is a situation of high tension”, explains the head of the Farnesina, “Iran is the protector of Hezbollah, the fundamentalists who fight against Israel from southern Lebanon probably train the Pasdaran, and the general killed today was a Pasdaran leader with responsibilities in Syria and Lebanon. Probably – he added – there were Hamas militants on site, it’s a rumor going around”.

Tajani therefore provides new elements on the Israeli raid, namely that a “meeting” was underway with representatives of Hamas or “of another terrorist organisation”, even if he admits that it is “an indiscretion, a rumor going around, but everything remains to be verified.” Tajani responds to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s fears about an imminent war: “The Poles look at the Russians with great concern but I believe that in these moments we need to have strong nerves, not be afraid, strengthen NATO, protect Ukraine, but always work for peace”, said the Foreign Minister. “All our efforts – added the head of Italian diplomacy – must be aimed at finding a positive solution, looking at peace, looking at NATO’s deterrent force and not at the offensive force”.
