Life coach Iyanla Vanzant is reigniting a contentious public dispute with R&B singer Tamar Braxton, declaring that the Grammy-nominated artist fabricated allegations regarding a tense 2018 televised intervention and warning that she will ultimately have to “answer to God” for her statements.
Addressing the 2018 “Braxton Family Values” Showdown
The dispute traces back to an eight-year-old filming session for the WE tv reality series Braxton Family Values. Vanzant had been brought in to help the Braxton sisters resolve deep internal family fractures, but the session devolved into a bitter confrontation. Braxton subsequently claimed on various media platforms, including The Wendy Williams Show, that the life coach mishandled sensitive discussions about her childhood sexual abuse and subjected her to public shaming and pressure.
During an appearance on The Jason Lee Show, Vanzant firmly dismissed those accusations, maintaining that she would not allow the narrative to persist among mutual acquaintances and peers. As Reality Tea reported, the 73-year-old life coach asserted that she believes she acted appropriately despite the fallout. Vanzant emphasized that the intervention was requested directly by the Braxton family for their own program rather than serving as an episode of her own long-running OWN network series.
Clarifying her remarks, she defined “not well” as being imbalanced, out of alignment, and out of touch. “And she was. She is.”

Family Tensions Persist Despite Public Apologies
The history between the two figures has experienced brief thaws amid the ongoing tension. In 2019, Braxton posted a public apology on Instagram directed at several individuals, including Vanzant, in an attempt to move past their public grievances. Despite that gesture, Vanzant’s latest remarks make it clear that the spiritual teacher considers the rift far from mended.
Complicating the narrative further, Evelyn Braxton, the mother of the Braxton sisters, has previously defended Vanzant’s intentions during the controversial 2018 session. Vanzant herself maintained to Lee that she accepts the role of the antagonist if it forces clarity on those she views as imbalanced, noting that her work remains dedicated to a higher purpose.

Vanzant Launches New Programs While Braxton Remains Silent
Vanzant’s renewed public commentary coincides with her professional return to the OWN network following the 2021 conclusion of her hit series Iyanla: Fix My Life. She is currently preparing to launch a new program titled The Inside Fix alongside two upcoming television specials.
Tamar Braxton has not yet issued a formal public response to Vanzant’s latest remarks on The Jason Lee Show, leaving the status of any potential reconciliation entirely uncertain as both public figures pursue separate professional endeavors.
