Moldova Police Investigate Group Over Online Mass Disorder Plot

Law enforcement authorities in the Republic of Moldova announced an ongoing investigation into a criminal group suspected of mobilizing young people online to orchestrate mass disorder and violent actions. The General Police Inspectorate confirmed that raids were conducted on Friday across Chișinău as well as the central and northern regions of the country.

Raids Across Chișinău Target Online Instigation Networks

The operation involved a coordinated effort by the National Investigation Inspectorate and the Information and Security Service, working alongside prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) and specialized tactical forces.

Investigators state that the primary motives behind the mobilization included financial gain alongside the planned destruction or severe damage of both public and private property. To execute these plans, the organizers established deceptive digital infrastructure, including fake accounts on TikTok and Facebook alongside dedicated Telegram channels.

ProtestMD Targeted Youth via Foreign Telegram Accounts

One of the central communication hubs identified by law enforcement is a Telegram channel operating under the name „ProtestMD”. Technical analysis revealed that several of the administrator accounts linked to these networks were managed from foreign jurisdictions outside Moldova.

The operators specifically targeted minors and young adults enrolled in vocational schools and higher education institutions. Law enforcement reported that the group relied on specific psychological manipulation tactics designed to diminish the target demographic’s perception of the legal and physical consequences associated with violent civil unrest.

Suspects Cooperate as Agencies Issue Safety Advisories

Authorities confirmed that individuals currently under suspicion are actively cooperating with investigators as the probe widens to identify all secondary participants and financial backers. In response to the uncovered network, security agencies have issued public advisories urging citizens to exercise extreme caution when consuming digital content, verify information through official channels, and disregard any online calls to participate in acts of violence.
