Madrid, March 24 (EFE).- “Valencian paella, ratatouille with pork, Iberian ham and Marcona almonds” are some of the dishes chosen by chef José Andrés, who has signed an agreement with Axiom Space to prepare the food that will feed the crew of the AX-1 mission.
“I am proud to partner with Axiom Space to create the meals that will feed the multinational crew on the International Space Station (ISS),” the Asturian chef said on his Twitter account.
“I dreamed of going to space. Now I am closer to sending food from my native Spain (paella, ratatouille with pork, Iberian ham and more) to the ISS,” explains José Andrés in a three-minute video in which he appears preparing the plates.
Traditional dishes from the Spanish cookbook and typical products of Spanish gastronomy, specially prepared and processed to withstand a trip to space.
Astronauts of all nationalities and countries are going to eat Valencian paella. “This makes me feel very proud,” she adds.
All together eating a paella: “That is the spirit of the International Space Station. And it is the spirit of the Spanish paella, where everyone gets together to eat from the same pan that is cooked over an open fire.”
For this new project, led by Charisse Grey, director of research and development at ThinkFoodGroup, the Spaniard has put his entire team to work to prepare meals that are not only rich in nutrients, “but are also satisfying and delicious”.
