The Incheon headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions will go on a general strike from the 3rd to the 15th, calling for the resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime.
In Incheon, health and medical unions, construction unions, and metal unions participate in strikes at some workplaces.
On the 3rd, the Incheon headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions held a press conference in front of the Central Regional Employment and Labor Office at the Incheon Government Complex in Michuhol-gu and said, “The July general strike will be a trigger to popularize the struggle for the resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime.” It is a struggle to protect people’s livelihood, democracy and peace.”
They put forward the cessation of union suppression, revision of Article 2 and 3 of the Labor Union Act, cessation of dumping of nuclear-contaminated water in Japan, the abolition of working hours due to overwork and stricter punishment for serious accidents, and guaranteeing freedom of speech and assembly and demonstration as key agenda items for the general strike.
The amendment to Articles 2 and 3 of the Union Act, the so-called Yellow Envelope Act, is expected to be dealt with at the next extraordinary session of the National Assembly. It is a content that limits companies’ indiscriminate claims for damages against striking workers and expands the scope of users, opening the possibility for workers of subcontractors to negotiate with the prime contractor.
In line with the national simultaneous general strike and candlelight protests, a resolution rally at the Incheon Headquarters will be held in front of Bupyeong Station on the 5th.
On the 7th, there will be a candlelight vigil for the victory of the general strike and the resignation of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime at the terminal intersection in Guwol-dong and on the 14th at the Juan Station three-way intersection.
On the 5th and 7th, general strike public propaganda will be held at Dongchun Station, Galsan Station, Gyeyang Station, Geomam Station, and Incheon Airport Station.
The Incheon Headquarters of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions emphasized, “The president is using the authority given by the people to oppress workers,” and “a legitimate general strike struggle will make a new history of democracy victory.”
