Kottayam Thiruvarppu Bus Strike: Updates and Latest News

2023-06-26 13:48:48

Kottayam – The meeting called to discuss the bus strike in Tiruvarp was adjourned without a decision. The discussion will continue tomorrow. The reason for the non-decision was that the CITU had asked for time to comment on the conditions put forward by the owners. CITU informed that the discussion will be completed tomorrow. The Bus Owners Federation said there was progress in the talks.

The owner Rajmohan Kaimal has been running a lottery business in front of the Vettikulangara bus since last Monday in protest of the CITU going on strike following the salary dispute. Rajmohan was assaulted by KR Ajay, member of CITU district committee and member of Tiruvarp panchayat, yesterday morning at 7.45 a.m. while removing the flagpoles to take the bus. Ajay was then arrested by the police and released on bail. The CITU had announced that the strike was temporarily suspended after the Labor Minister intervened in the matter.

Even after the High Court order to provide police protection to drive the bus, the service could not be resumed. Therefore, the discussion was held today following the suggestion of Labor Minister V. Shivankutty.
