After the announcement of the iPhones 15 and the confirmation that the new optical zoom capability (with 5x magnification) would only be available on the larger/top-of-the-line model, some analysts tried to point out when the feature will be expanded to the smaller model. — and the well-known Ming-Chi Kuo said that this should happen next year, with the “iPhone 16 Pro”.
More recently, Kuo reiterated his previous prediction when assessing, in a post on your blogwhich is the supplier of the tetraprism lens that enables enhanced zoom — the Largan — improved its yield to 70% this quarter, which will enable expansion next year.
Apple is expected to include a tetraprism camera in the “iPhone 16 Pro”, leading to 160% annual growth in iPhones with this camera in 2024.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max, as we know, offers the most advanced optical zoom among Apple smartphones. It is unclear, however, why the feature was limited to the most expensive model — although cost is an answer, as is internal space and battery life.
The fact is that, for next year, the analyst points out that the two brands that will see the most growth in global sales of smartphones with periscope cameras are Apple and Huawei.
