Laura Fox explains why she and Brian Moran adopted The FOMOs nickname

RTÉ presenter Laura Fox revealed that she and her husband Brian Moran adopted the nickname “the FOMOs” after struggling to agree on a single surname, discussing the moniker alongside their two weddings earlier this year and the return of Ireland’s Fittest Family.

Two Weddings Across Dublin and Rome

The couple held a civil ceremony in Dublin in April before traveling for a second celebration in August in Rome. The initial Dublin gathering came together rapidly after Fox sent a casual message to a family and friends WhatsApp group asking who was free on a Tuesday. Fifty people accepted the impromptu invitation for drinks and food. Organizing the Italian celebration proved similarly last-minute during a packed schedule as family members pressed for details.

The Origin of the FOMOs Monogram

Before the ceremonies, the couple experienced what Fox described as “an absolute war” over their married names. She favored Fox while Moran preferred Moran, and combining the two names sparked a debate over whose should come first. After having a drink one day, Fox coined “the FOMOs” as a reference to the fear of missing out, which she noted felt very on-brand given their love for a day out. Moran suggested reversing the order, though Fox felt “MoFo” lacked the same ring.

The Return of Ireland’s Fittest Family

Fox appeared on the program to discuss the upcoming 14th series of Ireland’s Fittest Family. The new season features a diverse lineup of contestants, including a grandmother competing alongside her two sons and grandson, alongside a 14-year-old boy who spent years waiting to enter. Discussing the show’s coaching staff, Fox compared managing them to herding kittens, noting that Donncha O’Callaghan frequently disappears in search of coffee during production.

Ireland’s Fittest Family returns to RTÉ One and RTÉ Player on Sunday, 1 November, at 6.30pm.
