Cycling is a challenge in downtown Linz. One searches in vain for a continuous east-west connection. That should change now. In future, a bike path on Lederergasse will connect the main square with the digital mile around the tobacco factory.

Specifically, the section between Herbert-Bayer-Platz and Kaisergasse will be turned into a bicycle street and thus closed to through traffic. Cars are then only allowed to drive in and out. A structurally separated two-way cycle path three meters wide will then be built between Kaisergasse and Honauerstrasse. The cycle path will be led along the south side of Lederergasse, the parking spaces there will be closed. 350,000 euros are estimated for this, construction is expected to start in the summer.
Strengthen active mobility
The second construction phase between Honauerstrasse and Petzoldstrasse is planned for 2024. “We want to strengthen active mobility, i.e. cycling and walking,” says mobility officer, Deputy Mayor Martin Hajart (VP). Not only to create the mobility turnaround, but also to secure the business location.
Citizens should have a say
Hannah Kordes and her design office “Studio Kordial” were commissioned to redesign the street. Kordes specializes in supporting spatial transformation processes and making potentials visible. The residents of the area should be involved as intensively as possible. Greening, shade, water features, street furniture – anyone who wants to can get involved. Every first Friday of the month there is a joint walk along the axis to provide information and develop ideas. The project is supported with funds from the climate fund. A “Kimaachsenfest” is planned for May 26 on Herbert-Bayer-Platz.
