“Lidl Auvelais Incident: Six Intoxicated After Freon Gas Leak”

It is our colleagues from the Future who reveal the information: six people were intoxicated this Saturday at Lidl d’Auvelais (Sambreville).

Information confirmed by Colonel Marc Gilbert. “We intervened this Saturday in the store for people who felt bad. We had the refrigeration installations cut off and the store evacuated,” he explains.

The origin of the problem would come from a freon gas leak. “The analyzes that we carried out, in any case, showed a proven concentration. It is an odorless, colorless, inaudible gas which can cause headaches, nausea, vomiting. That’s what happened here. It is used to cool fridges, it is a non-toxic gas in the event of a small leak. But in the event of a larger leak, it can cause respiratory problems, this is still quite rare. »

Four ambulances were dispatched to the scene to take care of six staff members. Slightly intoxicated, they were dispatched to different hospitals “in order to carry out blood tests”, concludes the colonel. Repairers were expected on site to carry out the usual checks.
