Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG CNG Launched Starting At 10 Lakhs

Bookings officially opened on October 20, 2026, putting the new SUV in direct competition with established models from Tata and Maruti Suzuki.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Bookings Open With Turbo-Petrol Power

The sub-compact SUV enters a competitive segment currently led by Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors, which account for the vast majority of compressed natural gas passenger vehicle sales.

Unlike traditional CNG conversions that typically rely on naturally aspirated motors, the ZNG variant preserves the vehicle’s 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The powertrain delivers 111 PS of maximum power and 200 Nm of peak torque in both petrol and CNG modes, matching the performance figures of its standard sibling through specific turbocharger calibration and ECU mapping adjustments. The setup is paired exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.

Twin-Cylinder Packaging and Boot Space Comparisons

A primary consumer hesitation with factory CNG vehicles has historically involved compromised luggage capacity due to bulky single tanks. Mahindra addresses this by incorporating twin CNG cylinders placed beneath the boot floor, yielding 270 litres of usable storage space. The layout preserves a flat floor and retains the spare tyre.

Competitors have pursued similar packaging innovations across the compact SUV and hatchback categories. Tata Nexon iCNG utilizes twin cylinders to secure 321 litres of boot space while generating 100 hp and 170 Nm from its 1.2-litre turbocharged engine. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki deploys underbody tank arrangements on models like the Brezza S-CNG, which delivers approximately 328 litres of luggage room, and the Victoris S-CNG, which provides 320 litres.

Model Engine Type Power / Torque Claimed Mileage Boot Capacity
Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG 1.2L Turbo Petrol 111 PS / 200 Nm 24.70 km/kg 270 Litres
Tata Nexon iCNG 1.2L Turbo Petrol 100 hp / 170 Nm 24.7 km/kg 321 Litres
Maruti Suzuki Brezza S-CNG 1.5L Petrol 88 hp / 121.5 Nm Not Listed 328 Litres

Cabin appointments mirror higher-tier petrol trims, introducing panoramic sunroof availability to the factory CNG segment alongside dual 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation. Standard safety specifications across the variants include six airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, three-point seatbelts for every passenger, electronic brakeforce distribution with anti-lock braking systems, and a 360-degree camera.

September 2026 Sales Trends in the CNG Segment

Factory-fitted gas vehicles continue to capture a growing share of the Indian passenger vehicle market. Industry figures for September 2026 show CNG models accounted for 23.11 percent of total passenger vehicle despatches, totaling numerous units. This performance represents a year-on-year increase compared to units sold during the same month in the prior year.

Maruti Suzuki retained market dominance by dispatching numerous CNG vehicles, anchored by strong volume from the Ertiga and Dzire lines. Tata Motors placed second with 20,171 units, followed by Hyundai at 11,908 units and Toyota at 3,551 units. The steady expansion of cleaner fuel options reflects broader consumer sensitivity to operating costs in urban environments.
